Raoul Ubac was a French painter, sculptor and photographer. Ubac was active in the Surrealist movement during the late 1930s. His photographs appeared frequently in the Surrealist publication "Minotaure". In 1945 he started to move away from photography to focus more on painting and engraving.

In 1946 Aimé and Marguerite Maeght founded Galerie Maeght in Paris and the art museum la Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul de Vence. The gallery and the museum has collaborated with some of the worlds most famous artists and has a unique and impressive art collection.
